Merchant Organizer

Desired Start Date: Immediate
Position Type: Part time
Approximate hours per week: 20 - 28

Under general supervision, the p/t merchant organizer will be coordinating the formation of a merchant organization in the Castle Hill section of the Bronx. Tasks include conducting merchant and resident surveys, needs assessments, database management, analyzing data, and preparing reports. 


  • Conducting weekly outreach to identify and recruit merchant leaders
  • Identifying the needs of merchants
  • Working with Steering Committee members to plan monthly meetings, organize meeting agenda and goals, conduct outreach to ensure merchant attendance, and determine follow up needed after meetings


  • Ability to engage well with both merchants and community members
  • Understanding of or enthusiasm for learning about issues affecting small businesses
  • Knowledge of and investment in the health of Castle Hill and other Bronx neighborhoods
  • Flexible and creative
  • Exhibit self motivation and direction
  • Highly organized and dependable
  • Strong interpersonal communication, writing, editing, research, and organizational skills
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and Internet research 


  • Prior experience working with merchants
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish/English)
