Tenant/Community Organizer

Position Type: Full time

Under general supervision, the Tenant/Community Organizer will work with tenants and neighborhoods to build a stronger sense of community. The Organizer must be able to motivate and empower people to be effective advocates in their communities, along with coordinating efforts that strategically and positively impact the Bronx.


  • Conduct building and neighborhood outreach
  • Provide individual counseling to tenants
  • Hold regular meetings with tenants to identify and prioritize outstanding issues
  • Create and conduct workshops relating to housing rights and responsibilities 
  • Liaise with community-based groups
  • Mobilize tenants to develop self advocacy
  • Attend and participates in various relevant community meetings


  • Able to motivate and empower people to be effective advocates in their communities
  • Passion for building community resilience
  • Familiarity with the Bronx and its residents
  • Familiarity with NYCHA housing and leadership
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, and creative
  • Strong follow-through and attention to detail 
  • Demonstrated capacity to inspire others to engage in community issues
  • Strong collaborator, able to adapt quickly to changing situations
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed
  • Highly organized and dependable
  • Strong interpersonal communication, writing, editing, research, and organizational skills
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and Internet research 


  • Bi-lingual (Spanish/English)
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public administration, or a related field
  • Minimum two years experience working as an organizer in diverse, urban communities
