HOUSING COURT
We can serve as your “lay advocate” if you cannot afford legal representation in housing court. If you are faced with an unwarranted eviction, been overcharged for rent, had no luck getting your landlord to make repairs or have an ongoing dispute with your landlord, talk to us. We will help you know how to handle your own case or will go with you as your coach in court. |

We will help you form a Tenants Association to present a united front to your landlord and help to negotiate a solution. Or failing that, we will help you take the landlord to housing court. |

IMMIGRANT ASSISTANCE
Over the past decade our neighborhood has been the destination of many new immigrants from countries all over the globe. These groups often need special assistance as they deal with a new language, new laws and customs and people who are willing to take advantage of their vulnerabilities. NIDC is implementing an Immigrant Outreach program along with English as Second Language and citizenship classes. |

WORKSHOPS, COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND TENANTS’ COUNCILS
NIDC wants above all for Community members to be empowered to help themselves. We are happy to provide workshops on housing topics such as tenant’s rights or mortgage foreclosure. We keep the neighborhoods we serve informed of activities that many threaten or benefit them. We also help tenants of larger buildings form tenant councils to work together when a landlord is particularly unresponsive to the needs of the tenants for safety, security, and/or repairs. |
