For the last several years, students at Neighborhood Initiatives Development Corporation’s afterschool program at P.S. 89 have been spending their afternoons working hard, creating new cheer routines, performing, and building valuable teamwork and leadership skills, maturing through the process.
After a string of victories, The Universal Cheerleaders Association has extended the team an offer to attend a national camp in Orlando, Florida on December 28th. For 5 days and 4 nights, the team will be training and rehearsing in preparation for a nationally televised performance at the Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Eve!
This opportunity isn’t free as each team must pay their own way. The cost including airfare, lodging, food, and activities is $40,000 for the twenty Cheerleaders, coach, and staff.
All of the families are working to contribute as much as they can, but don’t have the resources to make this happen alone. With your help, our young people will have the opportunity to represent the Bronx, not just themselves, but all of us.
