Empowering Parents Through Advocacy: Autism and ADHD Resources

In honor of Autism Awareness Month, the Family Support Network hosted a special workshops PS 105 and PS 77 titled Autism/ADHD & Your Child: Advocacy and Resources.

Designed to support parents and caregivers of children with Autism and ADHD, the sessions focused on equipping families with vital information, city and state-wide resources, and practical strategies for effective advocacy.

The small group settings created space for open dialogue and meaningful engagement. Participants appreciated the relevance of the topic, especially in a month dedicated to raising awareness and support for neurodivergent children.

One of the most impactful moments of the afternoons came when two parents, after learning more about ADHD symptoms, shared that they saw signs of ADHD in themselves. FSN staff were able to provide both with information about how to seek evaluations for adults, expanding the workshop’s impact beyond parenting tools to personal growth and understanding.

Workshops like this one serve as an important reminder that when we provide families with resources and opportunities to learn together, we strengthen not only individual households but entire communities. NIDC and FSN remain committed to building these spaces of empowerment, education, and connection for families of all kinds.
