We’re here for the Bronx.

NIDC is more than a community service provider. We are a trusted partner and advocate.

Issue Areas

From afterschool programs and summer camps to housing advocacy and tenant support, we serve approximately 2,500 individuals annually - bridging gaps and creating long-term solutions for a stronger Bronx.

Youth Development + Education

Our Approach

We believe empowering young people is essential to building stronger, more resilient communities.

Our Youth Programming invests Bronx youth through a combination of academic support, social-emotional growth, civic and leadership development, creative enrichment, and life-skills initiatives.

NIDC’s approach is holistic and responsive to the needs of young people growing up in under-resourced neighborhoods. We provide safe, supportive spaces where youth can learn, explore their interests, and develop critical skills for long-term success. Programs are designed to foster confidence, resilience, and a sense of civic responsibility.

Through strategic partnerships with local schools, community organizations, and city agencies, NIDC offers afterschool programs, summer camps, mentorship opportunities, arts and STEM activities, college and career exploration, and financial literacy education.

4 Pillars of NIDC Youth Programming: These core areas aim to prepare children not only for academic success but also for a fulfilling future as confident, caring, and responsible leaders.

Literacy – strengthening academic skills in reading and other key subjects to ensure kids stay on track and grow their knowledge.

Social-Emotional Learning – helping children develop self-awareness, resilience, emotional intelligence, and relationship-building skills that are crucial for life

Civic Engagement – instilling in students the importance of community involvement, leadership, and advocacy through hands-on projects and service-learning opportunities.

Life Skills – encouraging healthy habits, teamwork, and community engagement through structured activities that will serve them beyond the classroom.

Parent + Family Well Being

Our Approach

The NIDC Family Support Network (FSN) is a dedicated resource for parents, guardians, and families, offering in-person and virtual programming to promote stable home environments where children and youth can thrive.

Rooted in trauma-informed, person-centered, and strengths-based approaches, FSN provides educational workshops, peer support, and direct connections to health and social service resources, ensuring families have the tools they need to build resilience and well-being.

Addressing Post-Pandemic Challenges | The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated mental health struggles, disrupted social development, and increased stress for families and youth. FSN was expanded in direct response to these challenges, providing structured support and evidence-based strategies to help caregivers navigate parenting in a post-pandemic world

Through trusted, culturally competent, and community-led programming, FSN is making a lasting impact—reducing stigma around mental health, increasing access to healthcare, and fostering a culture of mutual support

Mental + Physical Health

Our Approach

Good physical and mental health are the building blocks for a thriving life and community.

NIDC’s Health Hub strengthens community well-being by connecting Bronx residents to critical health information, resources, and services. Recognizing that health is a cornerstone of stability and opportunity, the Health Hub addresses barriers to care and empowers individuals and families to make informed decisions about their physical and mental health.

Our programs are community-centered and preventative. Through workshops, health fairs, screenings, and one-on-one support, we promote access to healthcare, mental health awareness, nutrition education, and wellness resources. We also provide culturally responsive programming to meet the diverse needs of the Bronx community, including services in multiple languages and partnerships with trusted local providers.

Housing + Economic Stability

Our Approach

Access to safe, stable, and affordable housing is fundamental to building strong, thriving communities. Through our housing and benefits access programs, NIDC supports Bronx residents in sustaining adequate housing while connecting them to critical benefits and resources that strengthen household stability.

Our programs combine direct services with education and community engagement. We support all housing supply stakeholders by providing eviction prevention support, tenant counseling, housing court assistance, landlord mediation, and homeownership guidance. At the same time, we help individuals and families access essential benefits such as rental assistance, public benefits, and social services to bolster their long-term security.

By addressing both immediate housing challenges and underlying economic barriers, NIDC empowers residents to maintain their homes, improve their living conditions, and build stronger foundations for the future. Our work ensures that Bronx communities remain vibrant, resilient, and inclusive for all.

Community + Economic Development

Our Approach

NIDC’s Community and Economic Development programs are designed to create pathways to stability, opportunity, and growth for Bronx residents.

Our approach integrates financial empowerment, community organizing, small business support, and neighborhood revitalization. Through partnerships with financial institutions, workforce agencies, and local businesses, we connect residents to the opportunities and resources they need to thrive.

By investing in individuals and strengthening neighborhood infrastructure, NIDC works to build a more inclusive economy and foster resilient, vibrant communities.
