Celebrating Stories and Creating Smiles at Family Literacy Night
On December 17, 2024, the warmth of community and the joy of reading came together at PS/MS 89 for our third annual Family Literacy Night, hosted in partnership with the PS 89 administrative team. From 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., the school was transformed into a festive hub where over 400 attendees, 200 adults and 200 children, gathered to celebrate the power of books and togetherness.
The evening was designed to promote literacy in a fun, engaging way. Families enjoyed a cozy atmosphere filled with games, hot chocolate, and the magic of the season. Each child received a book to take home, reinforcing the importance of reading beyond the classroom. And of course, the highlight for many was the chance to take a photo with Santa himself.
This event wasn’t just about books, it was about building memories. One of the most touching moments came in the form of a heartfelt letter from the PS 89 admin team to our Program Director, expressing their gratitude for NIDC’s continued support and contributions to this beloved tradition.
Family Literacy Night is a shining example of how community partnerships can create meaningful experiences that support learning and connection. We’re proud to have been part of it and look forward to many more nights filled with stories, laughter, and shared joy.
