As the school year came to a close, NIDC’s Youth Programs team marked the moment with a series of joyful, reflective events across a few of our sites.

As summer kicked off, our teams were hard at work laying the foundation for a season of learning, connection, and community. Through a series of orientation events in early June, we welcomed families, introduced staff, and set the tone for a safe and enriching summer.

This spring and summer, NIDC’s Youth Programs team celebrated two incredible milestones with the PS89 cheerleaders and their peers from New Initiative High School.

This June, PS 96 came alive with color, music, and community spirit as our Youth Programs hosted two unforgettable events that celebrated student creativity and connection. 

On June 3, 2025, our Youth Programs team had a lot to celebrate as the PS 89 kickball team brought home a major win at the MSAL Bronx Middle School Kickball Championship in Allerton!

On June 4, PS 483 came alive with the spirit of sustainability as students, families, and community partners gathered for Eco-Fest 2025, a celebration of environmental stewardship, creativity, and community pride.

On June 4, ten NIDC youth participants took a field trip to Washington Square Park for a special public showcase celebrating their work with the CEI Benchmarks Program, a powerful arts and social justice initiative that brings students together to explore complex issues through collaborative design.

On May 2, 2025, the PS 483 cafeteria transformed into a vibrant hub of innovation and curiosity as more than 30 students from both the school and NIDC’s after-school program proudly presented their projects at the annual Science Share.

Valentine’s Day provided a wonderful opportunity for students to express appreciation for the special people in their lives while building friendships within the program.

At PS 483, students gear up their gloves and goggles, diving deep into the world of STEM through engaging, hands-on experiences that spark curiosity and creativity. Thanks to the ExpandEd STEM Educators Academy, our young learners in grades 2-5 participate in weekly afterschool lessons led by trained STEM educators.

At NIDC, we believe in the power of storytelling to inspire young minds. Our Author Meet & Greet series brings writers into schools, giving students the opportunity to engage with authors, explore new ideas, and see themselves reflected in powerful stories. 

On December 17, 2024, the warmth of community and the joy of reading came together at PS/MS 89 for our third annual Family Literacy Night.
