PS 96 & FSN: Sleep Hygiene–the Key to Your Child’s Health and Academic Success

In the midst of the holiday frenzy, not every child might have a restful night filled with “visions of sugar plums” dancing in their heads! But regardless of the time of year, quality sleep is essential for every child and family member.

Parents, caregivers and PS 96 staff (and a couple children, too!) joined NIDC’s Family Support Network (FSN) for an interactive and informative workshop on Dec 16th: Sleep Hygiene–The Key to Your Child’s Health and Academic Success.

The main message? Sleep hygiene means cultivating healthy habits, a calming bedtime routine and a good environment to encourage quality sleep. It’s especially important for children to regularly have a good night’s sleep for their mental, emotional and physical health.

Sleep hygiene information was shared and discussed, with some parents also providing helpful suggestions about sleep hygiene for neurodivergent children. The lively conversation ended in time for everyone to get home for a lovely bedtime story - click here for some soothing nighttime suggestions!
