Citywide Participatory Budgeting: PS/MS 89 NIDC Youth Staff Share Ideas for How to Spend “The People’s Money”

As part of “The People’s Money” (the NYC Civic Engagement Commission’s Citywide Participatory Budgeting program), NIDC held an “Idea Generation” session at PS/MS 89 on Veteran’s Day.

NIDC Youth Staff used the professional development day to come together and engage in a rich discussion on the city budget and create ideas for additional programs or services they would like to see in the Bronx.

All of our afterschool staff was excited to do this project and felt it was especially important for them to be able to share their informed perspectives on how the city can best support youth programming.

“Idea Generation” is Phase 1 of “The People’s Money” and ran through November 19th. In Phase 2, ideas will be reviewed by Borough Assemblies and ballots will be finalized. Then, “Voting” is Phase 3 and happens in Spring 2026. For more information or if your organization is interested in voting in the spring, please contact Jessica Toro at jtoro@nidcny.org.
