Youth Team Helps Empower Bronx Residents During The People's Money Day of Action
NIDC's Youth team spent the day connecting with Bronx residents during The People's Money Day of Action, a community outreach initiative supporting The People's Money, New York City's participatory budgeting program led by the NYC Civic Engagement Commission (CEC).
The People's Money gives New Yorkers ages 11 and older the opportunity to help decide how public funds are invested in their communities by voting on projects that address local needs and improve neighborhoods across the five boroughs. Through this citywide initiative, residents have a direct voice in shaping community investments and strengthening civic participation.
As part of the Day of Action, NIDC's Youth team canvassed throughout Fordham Plaza and Little Italy (Belmont), engaging residents in conversations about The People's Money voting process, answering questions, and encouraging participation. By meeting people where they were, the team helped raise awareness of this important civic engagement opportunity and empowered more community members to make their voices heard.
The day concluded with a team lunch and debrief at The Bronx Beer Hall, where participants reflected on the experience, celebrated their outreach efforts, and discussed the impact of community engagement. We extend our sincere thanks to The Bronx Beer Hall for generously hosting our team and providing a welcoming space to gather after a successful day of service.
