Empowering Women Through Self Defense and Community Connection
In celebration of Women’s History Month, NIDC hosted a free Women’s Self Defense Workshop on March 29, 2026, in partnership with Full Element Martial Arts and White Plains Road BID.
The workshop was designed to provide women in the community with practical tools to support their safety, build confidence, and learn basic self-defense techniques in a supportive environment. While originally planned as a series, the event was held as a one-day session, bringing together participants for an interactive and hands-on experience.
Led by Master Simmons and supported by additional instructors, participants worked in small groups to practice techniques and learn how to respond in real-world situations. The structure of the workshop allowed for personalized guidance and ensured that each participant was able to actively engage with the material.
Throughout the session, participants learned foundational self-defense skills and gained a better understanding of how to protect themselves in unsafe situations. At the end of the workshop, each participant received a certificate of completion, recognizing their participation and commitment to personal safety.
The impact of the workshop was clear in the feedback from attendees, with participants expressing interest in continuing their training and asking about future sessions.
Events like the Women’s Self Defense Workshop reflect NIDC’s commitment to creating spaces where community members feel supported, informed, and empowered. Through partnerships and accessible programming, NIDC continues to connect residents with opportunities that strengthen both individual confidence and community well-being.
