Family Support network Hosts: “Heart2heart” communication workshop for parents

In July, the Family Support Network (FSN) hosted its second Heart2Heart virtual workshop, focused on nurturing healthy communication between parents and children of all ages.

Creating Space for Honest Conversations

It was an evening of learning and sharing, centering on equipping parents and caregivers with practical tools to foster open, respectful, and consistent dialogue with their children. Facilitators guided participants through strategies to build emotional safety at home—spaces where children feel heard, understood, and free to express themselves without fear of judgment.

More than a workshop, the “Heart2Heart” series is also building a community of support. One of the most powerful aspects of the evening was the vulnerability and engagement shown by participants. Parents shared personal stories and challenges in the chat, offering advice and encouragement to one another. The interactive format fostered a sense of community, reminding attendees that they are not alone in their parenting journeys.

Topics included:

  • Navigating digital distractions and generational differences

  • Addressing trauma and stress in family communication

  • Practicing active listening and conflict de-escalation

  • Modeling empathy in everyday interactions

  • Honoring cultural heritage and family values in conversations
