FSN | Supporting Families Through Autism Awareness and Resource Connection

Families from across New York and beyond came together virtually on May 4, 2026, for NIDC Family Support Network’s Neurodiversity & Your Child Session 8: Autism Awareness Workshop featuring special guest S&A Unified Home Care.

The workshop focused on connecting parents and caregivers of children with autism and other special needs to valuable support services, financial assistance programs, and caregiving resources. Participants learned about available state and federal programs, including services designed to support both children and adults with special needs.

Representatives from S&A Unified Home Care guided families through available care options and explained how caregivers can access assistance with applications for financial support programs and long-term care services. The session also provided families with referral resources and direct opportunities to ask questions tailored to their individual needs.

One of the most impactful aspects of the workshop was the strong level of engagement from attendees. Parents actively participated throughout the session, asking thoughtful questions and sharing experiences during an extended Q&A discussion. Families joined from multiple states, including California, North Carolina, New Jersey, Texas, and across New York, reflecting the growing reach and importance of accessible virtual support spaces.

Parents expressed appreciation for both the information shared and the opportunity to connect with professionals and other caregivers navigating similar experiences. Workshops like these continue to highlight the importance of creating supportive environments where families can access trusted resources, build community, and feel empowered in advocating for their children.

Through initiatives like Neurodiversity & Your Child, NIDC’s Family Support Network remains committed to supporting families through education, connection, and meaningful access to services that strengthen the well-being of children and caregivers alike.
