NIDC Raises Awareness for 988 Day
Access to mental health support can make a critical difference, and knowing where to turn is an important first step. In recognition of 988 Day on September 8, NIDC’s Family Support Network used its social media platforms to help raise awareness of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and the support available through this nationwide resource.
Using materials provided through the 988 Lifeline toolkit, NIDC shared information to help community members better understand when and how to use 988. The Lifeline provides free and confidential support for people experiencing mental health, suicide, or substance use crises and connects individuals with trained crisis counselors.
The awareness campaign also highlighted resources explaining the differences between calling 988 and 911, helping community members better understand which service may be appropriate depending on the situation.
By sharing trusted mental health resources through our digital platforms, NIDC’s Family Support Network continues to help connect individuals and families with information and support they can turn to when they need it.
