Eastchester Gardens Annual Back-to-School Giveaway
Eastchester Gardens families came together for an afternoon of fun, community, and back-to-school preparation at NIDC’s Annual Back-to-School Backpack & Supplies Giveaway.
Returning to the grounds of Eastchester Gardens on August 29, the annual celebration helped local students prepare for the new school year while giving families an opportunity to enjoy the final days of summer together. The event welcomed 133 adults and 225 children, with students receiving backpacks and school supplies to help them start the school year ready to learn.
Beyond the giveaway, families enjoyed an afternoon filled with food, games, basketball, and opportunities to connect with neighbors and community partners. This year’s event was especially meaningful as the celebration returned to Eastchester Gardens after being held at PS 121 the previous year.
The event was made possible with support from community partners including MetroPlusHealth, Montefiore, Youth Justice, KT Athletics, Caribbean Bakery, the NYPD 49th Precinct Community Affairs Unit, Baldor Specialty Foods, New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, and New York City Council Member Kevin Riley.
NIDC is grateful to our partners and everyone who joined us in making the day a success. Together, we were able to help Eastchester Gardens students head into the new school year with supplies in hand and a community cheering them on.
