Welcoming Families Back to School at PS/MS 89

A new school year is even better when it begins with community! NIDC’s Youth Programs joined PS/MS 89 families for a Back-to-School event filled with resources, food, activities, and opportunities to reconnect ahead of the new academic year.

Despite challenging weather, approximately 100 adults and 150 children came together on September 1 for a morning focused on helping families start the school year prepared. Students received essential school supplies, including backpacks, pencils, pens, crayons, and notebooks, while families were able to visit resource tables offering information and referrals related to healthy living.

The event was also an opportunity to simply have fun together. Families enjoyed food, music, dancing, and activities while reconnecting with familiar faces and welcoming students back to the school community.

NIDC was proud to work alongside PS/MS 89 and School Parent Coordinator Jamie Gonzalez to create an accessible and welcoming space for families to find useful resources and connect with their school community.

Rain or shine, it was a great way to say: Welcome back, PS/MS 89!
