Art, Rhythm, and Community: Celebrating Youth Creativity

This June, PS 96 came alive with color, music, and community spirit as our Youth Programs hosted two unforgettable events that celebrated student creativity and connection.

90s Greatest Hits – June 12, 2025

The following evening, the energy shifted from visual art to performance as 30 adults and 100 children gathered for 90s Greatest Hits, a high-energy dance showcase. Students performed a choreographed routine to iconic 90s tracks, the result of months of practice with dedicated staff.

The performance was more than just entertainment; it was a celebration of teamwork, confidence, and joy. Families cheered, clapped, and even danced along, creating a lively and supportive atmosphere. One attendee remarked, “The students’ energy was contagious. You could feel the pride in the room.”

Both events highlighted the transformative power of creative expression and the importance of community engagement. From gallery walls to dance floors, our students shined, and their families and educators were right there to celebrate every step.

Art Through The Ages – June 11, 2025

On Wednesday evening, the school’s first floor gym was transformed into a gallery space for Art Through The Ages, an art gala showcasing student work from across the year. With 15 adults and 18 children in attendance, the event offered families and staff a chance to explore a gallery-style exhibit, engage with student artists, and enjoy light refreshments in a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

The impact was powerful. Students felt proud and empowered seeing their work celebrated, while families expressed deep appreciation for the opportunity to witness their children’s artistic growth. One parent shared, “I had no idea how talented my child was until I saw their work displayed like this. It was beautiful.”
