Helping Parents and Caregivers Get Ready for Summer and the School Year Ahead
As summer kicked off, our teams were hard at work laying the foundation for a season of learning, connection, and community. Through a series of orientation events in early June, we welcomed families, introduced staff, and set the tone for a safe and enriching summer. Here's a look at three recent events that brought our mission to life.
Parent Orientations at PS 96: Setting the Stage for Summer Success
On June 9 and again on June 25, our Youth Programs team hosted Parent Orientation sessions at PS 96, drawing a combined total of 145 adults and 80 children. These sessions were designed to give families a clear understanding of the summer program’s structure, rules, and expectations. More importantly, they created space for open dialogue between staff and caregivers.
Parents met the team who would be working with their children, asked questions, and shared concerns. These orientations weren’t just about logistics; they were about building relationships and ensuring every family felt confident and supported from day one.
PS 77 Pre-K & Kindergarten Orientation: Planting Seeds for the School Year Ahead
On June 3, our team participated in the Pre-K and Kindergarten Orientation at PS 77, with a focus on early recruitment for the upcoming school year. The event offered a valuable opportunity to connect with interested families and begin conversations about enrollment.
By showing up early and engaging directly with parents, we’re laying the groundwork for a strong start in the fall, and continuing to build visibility and trust within the school community.
These events reflect NIDC’s ongoing commitment to empowering families, strengthening community ties, and creating opportunities for Bronx residents to thrive. Whether welcoming new families or reconnecting with returning ones, we’re proud to create spaces where everyone feels included, supported, and excited for what’s ahead.
